Permanent Fund Home

WEF funded a grant to buy 6 Digital SLR cameras for the "Digital Art and Design" class at WHS. Here is a student using one of the recently purchased cameras.

In 1997, a group of generous community leaders created the Permanent Fund to build a self-perpetuating income source for the Wellesley Education Foundation. Currently valued at $1.7 million dollars, the Permanent Fund distributes between 4% and 6% of its assets each year to fund WEF grants and programs. This income stream will support WEF's current grant programs as well as future initiatives for the Wellesley Public Schools.

With continued pressure on the Wellesley Public Schools' budget and teaching innovations evolving more rapidly, the time has come to increase the Permanent Fund to ensure that the town of Wellesley maintains educational excellence.

For these reasons, WEF is launching the Campaign for Enduring Excellence-Cultivating Innovation. This effort will help continue the funding of strategic and impactful grants to teachers, principals, and administrators.

CHALLENGE GRANT

Two long-time supporters, Janet and Jeff Larson, have generously pledged $500,000 to match new donations to the Permanent Fund over the next two years, through June 30, 2008.

Meeting this challenge means that the Permanent Fund will grow from $1.1 million to over $2.0 million-nearly doubling the amount the Fund can provide to schools each year.

Donations of $5,000 and greater, paid over as many as three years, will be matched dollar-for-dollar. Company matches will also be matched, potentially quadrupling the size of a single donation: $5,000 from an individual donor could become $20,000 to the Permanent Fund- an incredible impact!

A pledge made today may be fulfilled over as many as three years. For example, make a $6,000 pledge today and submit your first pledge payment of $2,000 this December, the next payment of $2,000 in December of 2007, and the final $2,000 payment in December, 2008.

WEF funded a pilot program at the Middle School where each 6th grade student in House "S" gets their own laptop. 9 ibooks can be seen in this picture.
DONOR RECOGNITION

While every gift to the Permanent Fund is valued, there are donors who deserve special recognition as philanthropic leaders. Those who donate between $5,000 and $9,999 will be recognized as 1881 Society members, in honor of the town of Wellesley's date of incorporation. And those who donate $10,000 and greater will become members of the Bradford Society in honor of Gamaliel Bradford, a Wellesley resident who distinguished himself as an accomplished biographer and the first principal of Wellesley High School.

WEF purchased a Polymerase Chain Reaction kit (PCR) for Dr. Doug Brown at WHS to amplify a gene that might be linked to risk taking. Here is a student with cheek cells in a test tube separated into dna and other cellular matter several steps before the PCR phase.
