Nancy Russell, Kids' Time Executive Director
|
In the fall of 1993, the Wellesley
Education Foundation, working collaboratively with the
school administration and School Committee,
developed Kids' Time, a non-profit after school
enrichment program for all elementary school age
children either attending the Wellesley Public Schools or
residing within the town of Wellesley. Its mission was to
draw on the rich resources in the greater Boston area to
provide high quality, affordable classes in subject areas
such as foreign language, art, science, and drama that
were not part of the regular school curriculum or
instruction. All children are assured access to courses
through geographical distribution among the six
elementary schools and equity through need based
scholarship.
Over 470 children attended Kids' Time classes in the Spring of 2003.
Instructors are talented artists, musicians, quilters,
storytellers, writers, chefs, photographers, animal
control officers, veterinarians, scientists, and engineers
who share their expertise with our children and sow the
seeds for the development of new interests and skills.

The Kids' Time Board of Directors is comprised of a
representative from each elementary school PTO and
WEF Board members. The Executive Director is
responsible for program planning and administration. A
Program Administrator assists with registration and day-to-day
program operations. An on-site coordinator at
each school assures program quality and student safety.

Over sixty classes are distributed among the six
elementary schools with a total of 890 students enrolled
in those classes in the 2000-2001 school year alone. The tuition charged
by Kids' Time covers only a portion of the costs
incurred for a program of this scope. The remainder is
subsidized by the Wellesley Education Foundation, as a
gift to the children of Wellesley.
