Matt King Summer Institute for Teacher Professional Development Home

WEF Honors Superintendent Matt King

In tribute to Matt King, who retired as superintendent on June 30, 2007, Wellesley Education Foundation is pleased to announce the establishment of a new grant program supporting professional development in the Wellesley Public Schools. The Matt King Summer Institute will provide funding for summer course offerings for Wellesley educators on new initiatives and enhanced teaching methods determined by school administration to enrich school curriculum, instruction, and leadership.

Throughout his tenure in Wellesley, Dr. King has been a strong advocate of continuous learning for all educators. In his first year, he arranged for Wellesley to become a participating district in the Teachers as Scholars program, a program to which WEF has contributed for several years. In partnership with WEF, he later initiated the Ruth S. Walter Environmental Education Grant. Most recently, in collaboration with WEF and the elementary PTOs, he advocated for the development of school based mathematics instructional support for elementary classroom teachers. WEF congratulates Dr. King on his retirement, thanks him for his many contributions to the Wellesley Public Schools, and wishes him well in his future endeavors.

Contributions in honor of Dr. King may be made payable to Wellesley Education Foundation and sent to WEF, P.O. Box 812321, Wellesley, MA 02482. Donation form available here.
